My Eyes Are Rolling

As if the portrayal of Christians on television was too kind, in steps pop diva Britney Spears.

It was announced that Britney will be a guest star on NBC's Will and Grace, playing (get this) a Christian Conservative sidekick to the character named Jack -- an obnoxiously over-the-top homosexual stereotype brought to life. Apparently Brit's character will provide a cooking segment on Jack's TV talk show which will be called, "Cruci-fixin's."

I am not making this up.

Not that I expect better from television producers. Not that I am calling for a boycott. Not that this really upsets me any more than the state of pop culture. It's just that I cannot stop my eyes from rolling.

So, what kind of recipes would be featured on Cruci-fixin's?

Ah, bad taste.

Bad taste, indeed. I happen to think the show is hilarious, though. I love Jack!

Shock of all shocks, I don't watch the show. I tried to watch an episode or two back in the day, but didn't find it amusing. Then again, I didn't think Seinfeld was funny either, so perhaps my sitcom tastes are non-traditional.

When I saw the story on Ms. Spears, though, I just about choked on my Sprite. Not because I was offended (it takes a lot to offend me) but because I can't believe, in the wake of the "Book of Daniel" fiasco, Hollywood remains so unimaginative at marketing and idea creation. Plus, c'mon, there's some awful casting going on if Ms. Spears is giving an acting role. Did we learn nothing, people, from giving Jessica Simpson a forum in which to act?

I understand that "stuck" position perfectly.

Ron, I'm with you on Will & Grace. My wife loves the show and(like Jennifer)find the Jack character funny. I've watched three episodes and haven't even cracke a smile. But then again, I loved Seinfeld.

I always thought the Jack character would be offensive TO homosexuals. It seems like he personifies every negative stereotype there is.
